Top strategies to STOP falling behind
Although the strategies are recommended for daily therapy notes…
BONUS- you can apply these to anything you tend to “get behind on.”
Work stuff-evaluations, IEPs, schedules…
Personal stuff- exercise, cleaning, paying bills…
6 Strategies:
1. Do them in chunks daily or throughout your day.
2. Make it non-negotiable.
3. Pair it down to the essentials– Write no more than 3 sentences. (Mine are 1-2)
4. Give yourself a very finite amount of time to do them; powerfully decide on a hard stopping point.
5. Purposefully and proactively plan something fun or nourishing (for yourself) after, so you are motivated to get it done in the time you allot. Take 5-10 minutes- Don’t skip this part.
BONUS:
Ironically-
Perfectionist/ procrastinator brains (aka SLP brains) are reluctant to try a strategy due to self judgement, self loathing, (conscious or unconscious)
… that’s why I love the strategy of
6… doing it badly…
Yup, you let yourself… Do. It. Badly
So when your (self-critical) brain says- “stop, this is terrible”
you say- yep, that’s what I’m doing,
I’m doing it badly
Point is -YOU’RE DOING IT
