During the work week I’d say-I’ll do that on the weekend…
Then the weekend came around…
Shit!
I really really just want to disconnect and relax.
I need to look for a job that -I can leave at work
There’s so much to do
I wish my work was just done
WAIT. What!?
uhm, SLPs, It’s never done.
No really- It’s. literally. never .done-
not in any area of my life.
(SLP, business, laundry, cleaning, yard work, the kids want to eat- every. day.)
Nothing is ever done
Most people are addicted to the fleeting hit of relief they get when that report is done, the laundry is folded…
and they burn themselves out constantly chasing that “quick hit of DONE”
except it’s not enough
(because it’s literally impossible to finish a to-do list)
but still, you take on more
work more
keep doing what you’re doing
I know it’s hard to change when the work just keeps coming…
the chase to get it done
still it’s. never, “done”
You project those expectations onto your partner, boss, co-worker, kids, employees…
it impacts relationships-
It gets in everything.
so common for SLPs-
You let the world and life decide FOR YOU
Instead of making POWERFUL DECISIONS and actually considering yourself.
💗 Don’t worry – this is very common and very solvable
I still work on this too
What if the world isn’t the decider of “done?” (it’s not)
💗 YOU DECIDE WHEN things are done my friend
Life (work, patients, students, reports…) keeps happening (on some level)
and that’s a beautiful thing
You might be thinking- I can’t think about this now
I have a lot on my plate right now
…See what I mean? We put things on our plate that don’t need to be there and forget to ask what is the most important to us.
Everyday, I have Rest, Relaxation and Goof off time in my schedule
Your brain needs that- even if you think you don’t have the time
I promise- you do
Here’s what happens when I give my brain the space it needs.
It starts thinking a little happier, it finds solutions to problems I thought were impossible. It starts coming up with more ideas to help SLPs, I think of my amazing clients, everything they want to create and I’m so thrilled for them. I play with my little girls. I even dance with my husband.
Your assignment this week is to live an amazing, meaningful life.
Yes, even in a pandemic, in your house, with a mask, at work, (fill in your situation…)
-sending so many hugs
As always, I love you
Angie
P.S. If you don’t know where to start and you want to unplug from your life (but can’t)- Get some dang help, it’s okay. What’s your biggest struggle? See if working 1:1 with an SLP Life coach is a good fit for you.
